Bendixsen, Walter - U.S. Army

King Cove, Alaska

Walter Bendixsen, Cpl., is from King Cove, his parents were Axel and Annie Bendixson.  Walter attended school at the El Nathan Home in Valdez before moving to Lazy Mountain Children’s Home near Palmer, Alaska, where he continued his education.  He married Pauline Dushkin.

Walter joined the U.S. Army in 1953, he was stationed at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.  He was released from service in 1955.    

Walter was a lifelong commercial fisherman in Aleutian Peninsula Area M, he fished there for more than 20 years.  He was a member of the King Cove school board for a number of years.  Retiring from commercial fishing Walter moved to Palmer, AK, and began working in construction.  He worked on construction projects all over the state of Alaska.
