Gundersen, Emil  - AK Territorial Guard

Emil Gundersen, Sr., Cpl., was born 8 June 1917, he was the son of Gunder K. and Katie (Mobeck) Gundersen.  He married Marina Halvorsen.

Emil joined the Alaska Territorial Guard in 1942 and served in the Aleutian Campaign during World War II.  He was officially discharged 21 Mar 1947.

Emil was a commerical fisherman in the Shumagin Islands and Aleutian Peninsula Area M.  He owned a fish net building and repair business in Sand Point, Alaska.  Emil was a board member of the Sand Point Baptist Chapel, named in his honor is the “Emil Gundersen Fellowship Hall."  His hobbies were carpentry, playing the harmonica, and card games.  Emil was the owner and captain of fishing vessels: Susie Q, Wireless, White Cap, and Harmony.
