Gould, James - U.S. Navy

King Cove, Alaska

James Gould, BT-3, was born in King Cove, he is the son of John and Ann (Dushkin) Gould.  He attended high school at Mt. Baker in Washington state.  James married Kathy Joy Payne. 

He joined the U.S. Navy June 1966, and did boot camp in San Diego, CA.  He was stationed on the USS Mahan, his postion was Boiler Technician 3 in the Forward Fire Room.  James did two tours of duty in Vietnam, 1966-1967 and 1968-1969.  He was discharged from service, August 1969.

James owned and operated a general merchandise store in King Cove, which consolidated the many small businesses of his father John Gould, Sr.  He served as interim Mayor, 1974 to term ending, and was also a city council member for 16 non consecutive years.

Status:  retired, Going Strong
